Be Dazzled at Centennial Project Space, Santa Fe

My last Friday evening in Santa Fe, i was wandering off the plaza, when I met Will Wilson, a teacher and artist who works at IAIA. His work is currently being shown at the Centennial Project Space, which showcases pieces bought by the New Mexico Arts board.

The space currently has "eye dazzler", a collaborative textile created by Wilson (Navajo) and several other Navajo weavers. The textile is stunning, made out of thousands of Venetian Glass beads. The design is based on a traditional weaving design but also references our contemporary lifestyle. The piece incorporates two QR codes that you can scan with your iphone. When scanned, they bring up a video that was created by Dylan McLaughlin about the creation of the piece featuring several of the weavers speaking in Navajo, and beautiful detail shots of the weaving in process.

The space hosts an interesting combination of mixed-media weaving and textile installations, as well as a motorcycle and a print by Robert Rauschenberg. If you are in town, you should check it out, it will be up till September 9th.
